Zack Snyder to Direct New Superman Movie

Zack Snyder, the acclaimed director of the Watchmen and 300, has been announced as director of the new Superman movie. I’m a massive Superman fan and a big fan of Snyder’s ‘Watchmen – The Ultimate Cut’ so this could be something really special. The film is also being co-written and produced by Batman and Inception director Chris Nolan so the team behind it is second to none. The film is due for a Christmas 2012 release in 3D and there’s already a very strong rumour that General Zod will be the main villian. Altogether now, “KNEEL BEFORE ZOD!”

This quote from LA Times gives me the confidence that Snyder really gets it, as he identifies why it’s been a struggle to bring the Man of Steel back to the big screen: “I think the first (Superman) movies were so well done, he kind of got stuck. I think our challenge is to bring him to a modern audience that’s still respectful of the character.”

No IE9 for Windows XP Users

As designers we’re always keen to push web technology further but understand that us having the latest browser doesn’t mean the user does. It’s for these reasons we test all our sites in the lowest common denominator, with additional non-essential features available to those who can view them. IE9 is the last modern browser to the party and we’re looking forward to seeing what it has to offer.

The IE9 beta was released yesterday and I’m itching to get Windows 7 installed on my Mac so I can start testing. I currently have Windows XP installed but IE9 won’t be available for the OS, though it’s probably just as well as my XP test bed has a vanilla copy of IE6 and I wouldn’t want to lose that. Many users are happy with XP and don’t have the need to upgrade or are unable to due to departmental reasons, as designers this means we need to push forward with new technology while ensuring we always support the old.

For more details on why IE9 won’t run on XP visit the Register.

Capital Radio Comes to Nottingham

In the South East Capital Radio is as recognised as Radio 1 and Capital’s aim is to increase the brand nationally, as it takes over six regional radio stations including Nottingham’s Trent FM. The takeover is due to take place next year and will replace the Hit Music Network stations Red Dragon, Trent, RAM and Leicester Sound. Trent FM will combine with RAM FM and Leicester Sound to become East Midlands Capital FM, with the station’s head quarters based just up the road from Gooii at the Chapel Quarter in Maid Marian Way.

Nottingham Commended for Low Car Usage

The people of Nottingham have been commended for their low car usage and “efficient bus service” reports the BBC. At Gooii we either cycle or use public transport, the bus links are frequent and so conveniently placed that there’s little need to use a car to go into the city, which is an average of 15 mins by bus for most people.

It’s another exciting day for Apple fans as a slew of new gadgets are released, tempting those crisp notes out of our wallets. There’s a new iPod Touch featuring FaceTime video calling, Retina display and HD video recording, as well as an updated iPod Suffle that allows users to add playlists. The new iPod nano boasts a tiny touch screen that looks very cool indeed and Apple TV has matured into a sleek, miniature device that has HDMI output and allows owners to rent and buy films from iTunes or stream content direct from their computers.

Apple have also updated their touch brand, using a simple but effective multi-coloured finger print design.

The Wilderness Downtown

The Wilderness Downtown is an interative website by Chris Milk, built entirely in HTML 5 and best viewed in Google Chrome. The site, a collaboration between the Milk, rock band Arcade Fire and Google, has a Donnie Darko feel to it and it’s really inspiring to see a level of creativity usually reserved for the most artistic of music videos.

Rock Band 3 Track List

When you work at a top Nottingham website design company how do you unwind at the end of the day. By sitting in front of another screen and pretending you’re a rock star of course. Here at Gooii we’re massive fans of the Rock Band series and are looking forward to Rock Band 3, which sees the introduction of real instruments. As a guitarist this has to be my most anticipated feature; I find that Rock Band on Expert level confuses the hell out of me as I can’t help thinking like a guitar player, not someone pressing buttons on a plastic instrument. Price permitting and if it works with the previous Rock Band tracks I’m in.

One of the best features of the Rock Band series has to be the playlists and IGN have scooped the full line-up of tracks. There’s some absolute classics including Queen, Hendrix, The Who and Whitesnake, though I’m not sure how Amy Winehouse snuck in there. Here’s the full list, broken down by decade:
