More Great Reviews For Gooii Road Safety VR Project

Speed Recognition VR attracts positive feedback

More great headlines are been written, announcing Gooii as the chosen technology partner for TTC Group. The first of many Virtual Reality safety apps, ‘Speed Recognition VR’ has been developed in conjunction with their DriverProtect division.

The ‘Speed Recognition VR’ app will help address the challenge of identifying speed limits without clear road signs being present. Driving at the incorrect speed is a common mistake made by many drivers. As we all know, excessive speed is the main contributor to accidents on the roads. By using this technology within their courses they can ‘parachute’ users into real-life scenarios on UK roads in a totally immersive virtual reality experience.

Porsche Adopts Augmented Reality In Workshops

Up to 40% reduction in servicing costs for clients

For a long time, Gooii Nottingham has been promoting the commercial benefits from VR (Virtual Reality) and AR (Augmented Reality). Many have seen these technologies as purely entertainment but we have seen the benefits for business from the very start. Porsche have been one of the first from the automotive industry to get behind this technology for genuine commercial benefit. They are beginning to implement “Tech Live Look” a new diagnostic technology at its dealership service departments. Porsche predict this could reduce repair times by up to 40 percent.

Using Augmented Reality glasses, Porsche technicians can see technical details projected via a display inside the lenses. The glasses also include a camera that can broadcast what the wearer sees to a specialist at Porsche HQ. The specialist can then talk the dealer technician through complex diagnoses and repairs. Tech Live Look also allows the technician to see service bulletins and schematics without having to step away from the vehicle.

“The automotive industry is ripe for digital transformation. Augmented reality presents one of the most promising ventures for the market across the value chain,” ABI Research Principal Analyst Eric Abbruzzese says. “Porsche’s announcement today highlights this. With the hands-free and connected capabilities of smart glasses proving invaluable for technician efficiency. Manufacturers, designers, service technicians, dealerships, and marketers can leverage AR in unique and tailored ways. Making the automotive industry a rapidly expanding market both in scale and opportunity.”

Currently, Tech Live Look has been rolled out to only three dealerships, but Porsche plans to have 75 equipped with the AR system year, and all 189 U.S. dealers should have it by the end of 2019.

BBC To Broadcast World Cup In Virtual Reality

Football fans who love their tech will be in their element this summer

The Fifa World Cup in Russia will not only be broadcast in Ultra HD but also Virtual Reality. BBC Sport is trialling the very latest cutting-edge technology and the team at Gooii Nottingham are very excited!

Virtual Reality viewers will be transported to a fully immersive stadium experience through headsets. They will be able to view the game as if they are sitting in their own hospitality box. All 33 matches broadcast by the BBC will be available for free on BBC Sport’s VR 2018 World Cup app. And the 29 matches on BBC One will also be available in Ultra HD.

Ultra HD TV can be accessed through a high-speed internet connection and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. The HD stream will be available from the BBC iPlayer home screen as soon as programme coverage begins but the number of users granted access will be limited to “tens of thousands of people”.

Matthew Postgate, BBC chief technology & product officer, said: “From the very first tournament on TV in 1954 and England’s finest hour in 1966, to the first colour World Cup in 1970 and then full HD in 2006, the BBC has brought major live broadcasting breakthroughs to UK audiences throughout the history of the World Cup.

“Now, with these trials we’re giving audiences yet another taste of the future.”

English Association Expand Gooii Web Solution

CRM Features Added To Existing System

Gooii proudly announced at the beginning of 2018 we had welcomed The English Association as a new client. Primarily we have been working on a new customer-facing website. Following discussions on where we can use software to make efficiency savings, we are now starting on a set of enhancements. CRM (Customer Relationship Management) is the first. Dynamic automation of previously manual functions results in the cost of this solution being offset by the saving of internal administration time.

This customised CRM system stores all customer data and interactions generated across multiple channels. This includes contact details collected from their website, emails, calls, meeting notes, and marketing activities. The beauty of this solution is that everything they need is in one place. This gives clear visibility of their sales activities, pipeline and all activities. Automated reminders also ensure they don’t forget to get back in touch with people.

Google I/O Visual Positioning System

Amazing future for VPS & Augmented Reality

Google announced a number of stunning pieces of future development work at their recent Google I/O event. This developer festival brings together coders from around the globe. They discuss, have hands-on learning sessions and have first look at Google’s latest developer products. Gooii Nottingham loves this event because these technologies are used in our app, web and VR/AR development projects. One of the most interesting was their VPS (Visual Positioning System).

The VPS uses your phone’s camera and Google’s extensive back-end data to analyze your surroundings. It then identifies where you are and where you are looking with greater accuracy. It also overlays Augmented Reality technology to provide additional information, not just navigation directions. Another advantage of VPS is for those of us who have experienced loss of GPS in densely populated areas. By using VPS, Google Maps can still recognise your location and direction of view.

Our own team were just as excited as some of the developers in the audience who were cheering and clapping. You can watch the full video here.

Fortnite Virtual Reality Edition

Will we see Fortnite VR soon?

Anyone who has a gamer or child of school age in their household will know all about Fortnite. It’s the new game that is sweeping the nation and has recently moved to mobile in its first of a kind move. So you can now play at home on your console and then move onto using a mobile whilst running out the door and waiting for the train.

So what is the next evolutionary step? Now they have the game ported from console to mobile, with the aid of a headset where you can place your mobile, could this lead to VR Fortnite? Gooii are experts in Augmented and Virtual reality using Google Cardboard headsets and we know it can…

Apple 16k Headsets Confirmed

Reports across the web suggest they are definitely working on a VR headset.

Apple will be combining both virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies in its own headsets.

The headset, codenamed T288, has plans to include 8K display in each eye. This is a higher resolution than the best TVs and VR headsets currently out on the market. It would connect to a dedicated box via a high-speed, short range wireless tech called 60GHz WiGig. This could solve the problem of VR headsets having too many wires.

In the box is Apple’s own 5-nanometer chip, said to be more powerful than anything currently in the market. To put in perspective the chip’s small size, the iPhone X is powered by a 10-nanometer processor. When it comes to chips, the smaller the number, the faster it is.

It would also come with built-in cameras equipped with spatial awareness tech out of the box.

The headset is reportedly in development and in its current state, the box it connects to resembles a standard PC chassis unit but is not an actual Mac computer. It is expected to arrive in 2020 given that Apple does not change or scrap plans.

The Cupertino California-based company has always taken the backseat with VR. What’s more is that Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, sees bigger possibilities in AR, where digital images are overlaid on the real world, rather than VR. By combining the two technologies and introducing brand new hardware, Apple hopes to solve some of VR’s current problems and expand their line of products outside of their top-selling iPhones.

Gooii Chosen As Technology Partner By TTC Group For VR

Future Of TTC Driver Protect Is Firmly With VR (Virtual Reality) Technology

Road safety specialist TTC Group has teamed up with Nottingham virtual reality, app and web agency Gooii. They have launched a fleet risk app that utilises VR technology to provide a cost and time-saving training solution.

Part of the firm’s DriverProtect managed service brand for all fleets, the DriverProtect App launches as TTC Group ramps up its corporate driver risk management focus. Initially, it will use VR to help address the common driver problem of identifying speed limits without clear road signs.

The app is launching in June for iPhone and Android devices. It uses a VR headset to transport users into an environment where they can learn and be tested on speed limit questions and scenarios. Future applications of the technology could also look at parking and manoeuvring.

The app will target public sector organisations and businesses that are looking for an alternative training option that saves time. Therefore this is more cost effective and can be completed without the need to be on the road.

Explaining how the company is passionate about innovating the way it delivers training through the use of technology, Andy Wheeler, business development director at TTC Group, said: “Drivers of cars, vans and goods vehicles (up to and including 7.5 tonnes) will benefit from realistic training that is easy to undertake, quick to complete… all without leaving their place of work or home.”

TTC is also working with Gooii to explore using the VR technology for more bespoke solutions. For example vehicle familiarisation for large corporates rolling out a change in vehicle fleet or delivering training in doorstep customer service delivery. Future updates for the app that could target LGV and PCV requirements.

If your business requires fleet management services then see TTC Group website here.
