Gooii at BBC Studios

BBC Research & Educational Space project

Gooii Nottingham have been proud development partners with the BBC for many years. Multiple projects are in development this year including greater public educational access to the vast BBC archives. These contain amazing film, print and audio content that scan many eras. Furthermore this content is being prepared for publishing in partnership with Gooii and LGfL (London Grid for Learning).

As a result, this current batch of work involves publishing audio samples with a simple yet powerful web based user interface. Teachers can search, filter and sort sound clips for use in their educational packages at there required key stage. Once again we are proud to be involved in this worthwhile project. We are looking forward to rolling out this new set of educational tools in 2018.

Salesforce Integrations

API integrations can seamlessly enrich your Salesforce platform data.

Gooii Nottingham has experience in building scalable, reliable and high-performance Salesforce integration solutions for clients. We can integrate your new website or web app using their API to both populate data and read existing data. Ensuring that you have all your Leads, their Status and Opportunities syncronised thus improving efficiency.

Your lead and prospect information can sync with your CRM, website and marketing automation platforms. Therefore your sales reps can see everything they need to know without leaving Salesforce. This includes all of the data collected through your marketing automation system, including social profile information, website enquiries, the emails your prospects have received, what they’ve been clicking on, which forms they’ve filled out on your website, and more. Sales reps can use this information to tailor their conversations to the needs of each individual prospect. Thus increase sales probability.

eBay Adds Augmented Reality To Shipping App

Android eBay users can now view appropriate package sizes in Augmented Reality.

eBay have sometimes fallen behind on technology compared to their bigger rivals. However, the latest interesting feature on the Android eBay app features the very latest Augmented Reality. It will aid consumers in their search for correct shipping box sizes.

To use the AR feature, simply point your phone at the object you wish to ship. The appropriate augmented reality box will then appear over the item, simplifying the process for deciding on the right shipping container. There are several “standard box sizes” as preset options, further ensuring you know the right size of box you need.  Once you have the appropriate box you are ready to ship your product.

To access the feature, update the eBay app a compatible Android smartphone; at present time, only select Android phones allow the AR feature.

A Magic Leap For Augmented Reality?

The latest advance in Augmented Reality with Magic Leap One.

This week Magic Leap announced the release of the SDK (Software Development Kit). This allows developers, like Gooii, to start creating amazing, realistic experiences using their revolutionary headsets. Our R&D team have been busy working away with the toolkit to see what amazing new services we can give our clients.

Magic Leap One is a retro-looking pair of black, goggle-like glasses which will mix digital images with reality. This gives an extremely realistic experience and is comfortable to view for a long time. This amazing technology involves the re-creation of light fields, which are the patterns created when light bounces off an object.

Magic Leap is based in South Florida where it has been working secretively on its headset technology. An initial concept shown in late 2014 included impressively rendered animals that genuinely appeared to exist in the same room. Powerful computers created the images rather than a head-mounted display at that time. However, with their £1.5BN funding they have now shrunk the technology down to a comfortable, wearable size.

An exciting aspect of this technology is that we can now delivery group alternative reality experiences. Consider if you are in a museum you can have a Star Trek style holodeck room. Visitors can all wear headsets, enter the empty space and start to explore multiple augmented reality experiences and interact together. Alternatively, those with interests in historical battles on land or sea can visit locations and view live overlays of battle movements and historical facts.

Watch an amazing example of how a school could provide these rich experiences is here.

New Gooii Website Launch

We’re proud to announce that our new and redesigned website is now live!

The updated Gooii website is a wholesale change to design and layout with 100% new responsive pages. This means it looks amazing on any device from desktop to mobile.

Phillip Hasted, Creative Director at Gooii commented. ‘It’s something we have been meaning to do for a couple of years.  However, with so much important work with our clients and new contract awards including the Royal Armouries, TTC Group and English Association, it has always taken a back seat.’

One of the most important areas to us was the content. It was always of a high quality so we have migrated it to the new site. It looks fantastic in these new layouts. We have lots of plans to add more content that you will find useful and interesting over the coming months. Filtering of news and recent projects have also been improved especially for mobile devices. There’s also a whole host of smaller but impactful minor changes, all to make your experience of our site easier and more engaging.

When we started the project we had so many amazing ideas and these mostly surrounded helping users get information quickly and easily without too many clicks. We have more exciting plans including showcasing Virtual Reality work but as with all large projects, its one step at a time and we will be rolling these out over the coming months.

As some of you may have seen recently, we have also reimagined the Gooii logo to bring it up to date with a fresh, clean and modern feel. This site accompanies the new YouTube channel where you can see examples of our work here.

We hope you like all the changes, and if you have any feedback on your thoughts, please let us know! If you love our new design why not get in touch and see what we can do for you here.

English Association Commissions Gooii For Brand Refresh & Website Redesign

Gooii proud to become the English Association creative partner.

Another major win in 2018, this sees several language associations joining the creative and technical team in Nottingham. The English Association join other associations such as the Historical Association and Association for Language Learning in the Gooii stable.

EA have been searching for a partner to help them not only with a website but also to help refresh their identity. They would like a more updated and modern feel. A brand identity to help reflect its status as a leading language association in the UK.

Their new website also had complex technical requirements. These included integration to its membership system, data migration and transformation from their previous content system. Some published content can be free to download, whilst other items are behind a membership level. GDPR compliance was also an area that Gooii can provide valuable consultancy with.

We can’t wait to get cracking and already have a number of exciting ideas in mind! Keep your eyes peeled for updates on our progress over the coming weeks.

Apple WWDC (World Wide Developer Conference) 2018

Apple confirms June 4-8 for their annual WWDC.

Bloomberg News suggests Apples WWDC 2018 will be unveiling new versions of its iPhone and Mac operating systems at the conference. Highlight announcement will likely be the combination of the app systems for iPhones and Macs. If true, this will give improved apps for Mac computers and has been rumoured for some time.

Exciting rumours include a refresh of the iOS graphical elements. Many commentators think the WWDC promo image (above) is an exciting indication that the UI will become more three dimensional. Previous WWDC imagery has been flat and this move is seen by many as an indicator of things to come.

WWDC provides an opportunity for millions of developers like Gooii Nottingham, to learn more about how to create new experiences across Apple’s platforms. These include iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV, Mac and HomePod.

It also presents developer APIs, including SiriKit, HomeKit, HealthKit, GymKit, MusicKit, ResearchKit, and CoreML. This gives developers new ways to help users control and integrate their digital lives. Last year at WWDC Apple debuted ARKit, and since then, Gooi have been working on more ingenious AR solutions.

Ticket allocations to the conference are via a lottery. If you are very lucky to get one they will cost you £1,200 each. In addition to the ticket cost, is the travelling to San Jose, California. Therefore you can be forgiven for reading all the developments in the press! However, you can watch a live stream of the keynote speech via the Apple website.  Keep an eye out for Gooii News items and we will let you know when that is confirmed with a URL to follow.

You can view Apple’s press release here.

Artificial Intelligence Software Improves Efficiency

Reuters confirms artificial intelligence (AI) technology needed to help businesses improve efficiency.

Research confirms utility companies can increase their efficiency by using more AI. Software developed by AI specialists such as Gooii Nottingham can, in this sector, help predict demand swings in the power grid. When it comes to domestic users, AI can be used to manage home appliances more efficiently, consultancy Roland Berger confirmed.

European utilities could achieve efficiency gains of up to a fifth over the next five years using such technology. Adding that less than a quarter of firms had a strategy to do this. These values are even lower in the wider business community. Gooii Nottingham understands that AI is a game changer for many businesses and institutions.

“Companies need to respond to this change and come up with new business models,” Torsten Henzelmann, partner at Roland Berger, said. “To do that they need new technologies such as artificial intelligence.”

The rise of renewables, such as solar and wind that provide intermittent supply, has increased the need for intelligent IT systems. They need to balance demand and intelligently manage supply swings. Companies also need to seek to meet energy and carbon emissions targets. AI technology is an amazing method to manage resources and address all these multiple complex demands. E.ON are to develop software that uses machine learning to improve manufacturing processes and lower energy costs.

If your business needs to improve efficiency, customer experience and reduce costs you should consider using AI. Talk to Gooii Nottingham to find out where and how.

Wired Angel Fashion eCommerce Website

A beautiful, clean branded eCommerce website.

UK and Ibiza based Wired Angel have experienced fantastic growth with their luxury bohemian fashion brand. To complement this growth, a new website was needed. The brief was to develop a site of clean design, fresh looking, modern and engaging. eCommerce functionality was an essential part of the new site to help generate greater online sales. Naturally, they came to Gooii Nottingham to see if we could help.

In addition to the design requirements, we also needed some more advanced features for the site. Beautiful photographs of their clothing, accepting online orders and allowing discount codes too. A fantastic instashop would also be essential to give the full e-commerce experience.

The best solution for the client was to create a new WordPress website using a Divi theme. The site required bespoke coding in areas to really help present the shopping experience as their founder envisaged. WordPress is fantastic for business owners who wish to be self-sufficient and add content to keep their site fresh and new. This also helps with search engine optimisation to help you get higher up the Google search results. Additionally, it allows change of content whilst keeping the design consistent and in line with their corporate brand. The WordPress platform is designed for this exact purpose and has lots of fantastic standard plugins that can be used to give users advanced features at a low cost.
